About Nia

Nia Symone is a multi-faceted broadcaster, television host, storyteller, and basketball analyst specializing in women's college basketball, WNBA, and elite high school girls’ basketball. A former Division I basketball player, Nia has intersected her experience with deep basketball knowledge and a passion for authentic storytelling to bring audiences closer to the game and the people who shape it.

Her love for basketball began at just four years old. Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, Nia spent countless hours in gyms, weight rooms, and around the game she would eventually dedicate her life to. But it wasn't just basketball that captured her attention; it was the energy & untold stories surrounding it. From watching games on television to experiencing the excitement of game days, she became fascinated by the storytellers who connected fans to the action. Long before she ever picked up a microphone, she knew she wanted to be part of that world.

That passion carried her to Alabama State University, where she competed as a student-athlete while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a concentration in Radio and Television in 2019. As an athlete, she learned the importance of discipline, resilience, and sacrifice required to compete at a high level. As a communications student, she discovered the power of media and storytelling.

Today, Nia has built a career at the intersection of sports, culture, and storytelling. She currently serves as a basketball analyst & host for Overtime Select. Nia is also a on-air broadcaster for HBCU GO, covering college football and basketball while helping elevate the stories of student-athletes and coaches across the country.

Nia's on-air experience extends across some of the most recognizable brands in sports and entertainment, including Nike, Overtime, HBCUGO, Honda, Peloton, Hibbett Sports, SNKRS, the Professional Fighters League (PFL) and more. In 2021, she was named the host of Nike's first-ever digital talk show series "Come Thru," a game-changing opportunity that showcased her ability to blend sports and culture, speaking with athletes and entertainers like 3x WNBA Champion A’ja Wilson, 4x WNBA Champion Seimone Augustus, 3x Grammy-Award Winner Victoria Monet, and more.

Beyond broadcasting, Nia is the Founder of Purpose To Be Heard Productions ®, a boutique athlete-led production company dedicated to amplifying the voices and experiences of athletes around the world. Through original content, interviews, and athlete-focused storytelling, she remains committed to creating spaces where athletes can share their journeys authentically and be heard beyond their statistics and accomplishments.

Whether she's analyzing a game, interviewing an athlete, hosting a live event, or producing original content, Nia approaches every opportunity with the same mission, to tell stories that matter, celebrate the impact of sports, and inspire the next generation of athletes to find and use their voice.

“Dreams are lovely but they are just dreams. Fleeting, ephemeral, pretty. But dreams do not come true just because you dream them. It’s hard work that makes things happen. It’s hard work that creates change.” —Shonda Rhimes
